ABOUT THE PRODUCT

Ranch-O-Lyx 24% AN Calf Receiving Tub w/ Availa & MOS is a highly-fortified, free-choice protein, vitamin, and mineral supplement that is ideal for calves being introduced to bunk feeding in a dry-lot scenario  or during times of stress (such as weaning, sales, shows, hauling/transporting, processing, etc).  This tub is formulated to deliver all of the supplemental nutrition a calf needs is in one “package,” therefore no additional mineral supplementation is required (see feeding instructions below).  As a rule of thumb, for every 13 oz (0.8 lb) of Ranch-O-Lyx 24% Calf Receiving Tub w/ Availa & MOS offered, ~4 oz of Ranch-Way’s Ranch-O-Min vitamins and minerals is provided.

Features and Benefits:

  • Elevated vitamins and trace mineral levels to support the immune system response against the stress and disease that will bombard young calves during weaning and receiving time.
  • Availa® brand of organic trace minerals (“chelated” Cu and Zn) bound to an amino acid complex to protect against mineral antagonism, improve mineral absorption, and further support immune function.  Improved mineral status = better response to your vaccination program = less morbidity.
  • Citristim® mannanoligosaccharide (MOS) that promotes good bacteria in the gut and inhibit certain pathogenic bacteria, thereby maximizing herd health and performance.
  • Organic selenium (from yeast) plus elevated Vitamin E work together as antioxidants to fight infection and disease.
  • Elevated iodine + chelated zinc to support hoof health.

Available in 200 lb tub

HOW TO FEED

Feed Ranch-O-Lyx 24% Calf Receiving Tub w/ Availa & MOS free-choice to calves on pasture or upon arriving to a dry-lot scenario.  Feed continuously as a protein supplement at the rate of one container for every 15 to 20 head, with a minimum of two containers in each lot or pasture to ensure proper accessibility. Target intake should be 0.5 to 1.0 lbs / head / day.  Average consumption should not exceed 1 lb per head per day so that intake of selenium does not exceed the legal maximum of 3 mg per head per day. Make sure animals are not starved for salt or minerals prior to introducing tubs.  It is critical that animals have adequate pasture or forage available to meet their energy needs (as a rule of thumb, young calves require ~2.0% of their BW per day in dry-matter intake for maintenance and to pacify hunger).  Provide free-choice access to plain white salt prior to and during feeding tubs.  Always provide clean, fresh water.

Naïve cattle may have low consumption when first introduced to tubs (and bunk feeding), therefore a two-week adaptation period may be required to establish a base consumption. If  consumption is low, increase the number of tubs per pasture and place containers near loafing areas and water source.  Consumption can be regulated by increasing or decreasing the number of containers available to livestock.  If consumption is high, decrease the number of tubs per pasture and spread containers out over a wider area.  Consumption will depend on the size and age of animals fed, and will vary with the type and quality of forage available; if livestock have access to an adequate supply of forage they are not likely to over consume this product.  Livestock maintained in a dry-lot or paddock scenario and/or that have limited access to forage will over-consume this product out of boredom or hunger; this is typically an indication that additional grain or roughage should be provided and that cattle may need to be transitioned off of tubs to a TMR.  Target intake is consistent and reliable when fed in accordance with these feeding directions.
