ABOUT THE PRODUCT

Mare and Foal 16 was specifically designed to provide balanced nutrition to pregnant mares during the last trimester and to growing foals. During the last trimester of pregnancy, the unborn developing foal requires the highest level of nutrients and calories for growth. Therefore, it is important to support the nutrient needs of the mare, especially in an effort to maintain her body condition as parturition and lactation draws near. Lactation is the most critical time to supplement the mare’s diet, as her caloric and vitamin/mineral requirement will be at it’s height. Mare and Foal 16 will also provide optimal nutrition to foals from the time they start to nibble dry feed through two years of age. This feed is also moderate in non-structural carbohydrates (NSC; sugar and starches) = 17 %.

Highly fortified with vitamins and minerals.
Moderate in starch, but elevated in calories = made with fiber-based ingredients; providing 1.18 Mcal of Digestible Energy (DE) per lb.
Probiotics (from both yeast and bacterial sources), which may enhance the digestive efficiency of the mare and foal.
Alltech’s organic protienated trace minerals (copper, zinc, and manganese) and organic selenium that increases trace mineral absorption and improves mineral status in brood mares and growing foals.
Balanced Omega-6 and Omega-3 fatty acid ratio (2:1), derived from flax seed and rice bran, to aid in cellular membrane function and repair.
Added amino acids to support muscle growth, plus added B-complex vitamins to promote proper immune function, hoof and skin health, and glossy hair and coat.
Caramel flavoring and molasses to entice consumption.

HOW TO FEED

MARES: Feed pellets during last trimester at the rate of 4-6 lbs/head/day. Increase as needed to maintain body condition during lactation up to 8 lbs/head/day. Provide an adequate supply of quality hay or pasture along with white salt and fresh, clean water at all times.

FOALS: In addition to mare’s milk (or milk replacer), foals can have access to pellets as soon as they will nibble dry feed. In creep feeders (where the mare does not have access), gradually increase the amount of pellets that the foal can consume until it reaches an intake of 1% of bodyweight per day. Feed at regular intervals (at least 2 meals per day). When consumption of pellets exceeds 1 % of bodyweight, 3 daily feedings is preferred. Do not allow the foal to consume more than 1.5% of bodyweight in pellets. Provide access to good quality hay along with white salt and fresh, clean water at all times.

CAUTION

Store product in a clean environment free of moisture, rodents, insects, and other pests. Do not feed moldy or repugnant feed. This product has been formulated specifically for horses and is not intended for other species.
