Feed as the sole source of salt and minerals to grazing animals on lush spring grass pastures and small grain pastures where calcium and magnesium deficiencies may occur. Cattle should receive this mineral free-choice at least 2 - 4 weeks prior to being placed on lush green pastures where grass tetany may be a problem. When the high-risk tetany period is over, switch to a different Ranch-O-Min mineral that best complements the hay or pasture being fed.
Feed free-choice to grazing cattle. Cattle should consume 2-4 oz/head/day. Number and placement of mineral feeders can control consumption. If consumption is low, increase number of mineral feeders and place them near water and prime feeding areas. If consumption is high, decrease number of mineral feeders and move them away from water the prime feeding areas. It is advised that if cattle are starved for salt, they at they be offered plain-white salt 1 week prior to the introduction of free-choice mineral. In some areas, where salt is low in the water and forage, additional salt may need to be provided along with this mineral to maintain the target intake of 2-4 oz.
